During the Rakuten Super Nighter baseball game between Rakuten Eagles and Orix Buffaloes on May 24th, which Eagles won 4-1, Rakuten Institute of Technology was busy showing off some of our latest facial analysis technology to the visitors. By analyzing the features of a person’s face, it was matched against a database of the same analysis done to 26 Rakuten Eagles players. This was then used to find which player the person resembled the most.

At times, the line to the booth stretched around the corner and down the stairs, and some people patiently waited 20 minutes to get their turn. After a long day, over 400 people had gotten their faces scanned and found out who their unexpected twin is, and after taking a commemorative photo, an overwhelming amount left us with comments about what a fun experience it was.

It is always a treat for us to meet people and use our exploration of the latest technologies to bring smiles to their faces through fun and interesting experiences. We can barely wait until the next time, when we hope to wow everyone even more!
