The Eastern European Machine Learning Summer School was fully virtual this year, and was held from July 1-9, 2020. RIT sponsored this year’s one week summer school to support students improve their theoretical and practical understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence. These are two topics that continue to be extremely important across industries and academic institutions and will continue to impact the world in profound ways in years to come.

EEML’s aims are to grant educational access to students in Europe and particularly Eastern Europe. Due to this year’s virtual format, lecturers and students participated from Eastern Europe and worldwide. Keynote speakers included Irina Higgins (DeepMind) and Przemyslaw Pobrotyn (Allegro) respectively.

RIT Paris Research Scientists, Anuvabh Dutt and Alois De La Comble, attended this year’s conference to support the ML and AI practitioners developing their skills and advancing their projects. Alois highlighted the enjoyment of the learning environment and especially the opportunity to attend the deep reinforcement learning lectures. “It is not something we do a lot in RIT so it was really instructive for us.”

RIT would like to thank EEMl, collaborating organizers GMUM and MlinPL, as well all lecturers and attendees for making this a memorable and productive summer school event.
