RIT’s Soh Masuko examines the rise of mobility as a service at Inter Bee 2019

2019.11.18

Broadmedia & Entertainment conference, Inter Bee 2019, was held from November 13-15 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba city, Japan.  Soh Masuko, Senior Manager of the Future Merchant Design Laboratory, was invited to give a talk at the panel session, “Mobility Entertainment: The Future Form of Vehicle Interiors”. He was joined alongside Takashi Fukui of ACG Inc. and Manji Suzuki of DENSO International America. The session was moderated by Yasuji Eguchi.

The panel session addressed the rise and evolution of Mobility as a Service (MaaS), a consumer-centric model of transport, and anticipated changes in the user experience over the medium to long term. The new ecosystem will reshape urban transportation and cities as they try to grapple with growing populations and the challenges of negative externalities such as congestion and pollution. The panelists also discussed at length the implications of this new commuter experience and generating more leisure time with the simultaneous advent of mobilities, e-commerce, and glass. Particularly in e-commerce, Rakuten’s specialized theme lab’s work in simplifying and personalizing the shopping experience can complement a simplified commuter experience via MaaS in the foreseeable future.
