Rakuten’s AR Quiz Unleashed

Rakuten unleashed the Augmented Reality (AR) quiz at this year’s Rakuten Energy Nighter, a special event sponsored by Rakuten bearing the name of Rakuten Energy. It is the first time we introduced the quiz to Eagles fans at Rakuten Seimei Park and they were ecstatic to participate as the Eagles faced off against the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters.

So how does it work? Participants access the quiz site by scanning the provided QR code. They then point their phone cameras at the baseball field and the game characters appear (as seen in the photo above). The quiz consisted of 3 questions ranging from past performances to more personal details, giving fans a chance to know their favorite players off the field.

With approximately 28,000 attendees at the game, 15,000 were provided a special QR code wristband to access the AR quiz. There were 9,401 page views and 3,218 unique users.

The first 200 participants who got all three questions right received a special sticker by ©Rakuten Eagles X Rakuten Energy, and three lucky participants were awarded the grand prize of a personally-signed ball by players of the ©Rakuten Eagles.

Rakuten first introduced the AR Quiz at the Rakuten Super Nighter, a special annual event held in Tokyo, in May. The first 100 participants to answer all the questions correctly received a prize of beef tongue stew, a specialty from the Eagles hometown in Sendai which was generously provided by Kaneta. Additionally, one lucky winner was awarded the grand prize of box seat tickets to a Rakuten Eagles’ game at Seimei Park.
