Rakuten Institute of Technology at SSII 2019

2019.08.06

Dr. Tomoyuki Mukasa, Research Scientist of Rakuten Institute of Technology (RIT), was invited to give a presentation at the 25th Symposium on Sensing via Image Information (SSII 2019). SSII is one of the biggest domestic conferences in the area of image processing and computer vision. This year, the number of attendees was 1,406, an all-time high in the history of the conference. The event was held at the famous Pacifico Yokohama on June 13.

At the organized session for Multimodal 4D Sensing, Dr. Mukasa provided an overview of state-of-the art technology of Augmented Reality (AR) and Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (visual SLAM), a computer vision technology to recover camera location and 3D scene geometry.  He introduced projects at RIT, including the AR furniture app exhibited at SIGGRAPH 2016, web AR products, the Web SLAM project, delivery robot projects conducted by the Robotics team, as well as other projects.  Furthermore, he discussed research methods in the burgeoning field such as occlusion-aware depth prediction and interactive AR.
